Today’s video shows a confrontation during the final table of this years WSOP main event won by Joe Cada. It is the thrill of poker and the adrenalin surges that are created when players are all-in and meaningful money is at stake that makes the game what it is. This is where some of the serious online poker cash game players miss the boat in my opinion.
I know many good and highly technical online poker cash game players and they are so enamoured and taken in but their own high mathematical prowess that they tend to look down (maybe not publicly) on other types of poker player.
During a big poker tournament where you are playing for meaningful amounts of money, there is nothing like the surge of winning a big pot. You see, people play poker for lots of different reasons and the thrill and absolute exhilaration of winning a pot under these circumstances almost cannot be surpassed.
But money and poker situations are individualistic and someone could get almost as much thrill going very deep in a $50k tournament having won a $10 satellite entry than they could cashing and going deep in the WSOP. You see, poker is about entertainment and the fact that it is played seriously by many people and often for a living should not disguise the fact that the vast majority of players are seeing the game entirely differently.
I love the WSOP and the WPT events, in fact I am really starting to become seduced by the thought of playing tournament poker. I Know that my aggressive style will find me certain positions where I can go deep and I like the thought these days of playing big online poker tournaments over cash games. The next step is to try and create some space in my diary next month or in January so I can play them.
Quite looking forward to that and “El Classico” tomorrow which is Barcelona vs Real Madrid for all you non football types out there.
See you soon
