The Hamsters Wheel

Sometimes I think that poker is like one big gigantic hamsters wheel in so much as once you are on it then it can be very difficult to get off. Many people have asked me over the years if I still work on my game……do foxes eat chickens?

Of course I still work on my game and in fact I never really stop. Joining a poker forum was a big step for me and I have learned an awful lot about online poker that I simply would not have learned had I not Joined the Hendon Mob forum back in February 2007. Also writing for the poker magazines that I write for also helps you to advance your knowledge as writing down strategies and principles and concepts helps you to understand them better and it also makes you look at your own game as well which is good not only for the reader but for you as well.

Only today I have ordered some DVD’s that have been recommended to me. This is why I still buy instructional material even now. Someone somewhere may just have a certain angle on a particular part of the game that I had not thought of and I hate possibly not knowing things. But if I spend say forty quid on a few DVD’s or whatever and I get just one thing out of it that advances my game or something about online poker that I did not previously know then that makes me very happy because I know that the money has been very well spent.

Plus, I have my own very individualistic way of reading books and watching DVD’s. Sometimes I transpose something what the author has said into my own unique situation in a way that someone else couldn’t simply because we all play differently and are in our own individual unique situations when it comes to how we play poker, how we think about poker, what games we play in and against who and also how we interpret data and the relevance of that data to our own individual situation.

This means that when someone has read a book or watched a DVD and made bad remarks about it then I dont pay all that much attention to those remarks even if they have come from a very experienced player. I will buy the book or DVD and make my mind up then and not before. I have lost count of the number of books that I have purchased that have taken a slating for one reason or another only to them find it immensely useful. So in short…make up your own mind and dont let others make it up for you.
