The Best Way to Go

I had someone ask me the other day why they were failing in cash games. I looked at their game and to me it seemed fairly solid. They used PT3 and were working very hard on their game without fail. But yet there were certain times when this player seemed to donk money off without good reason.

They simply couldnt increase thier bankroll beyond break even. After several long consultations with this player I came to the conclusion that the problem wasnt one of a lack of technical ability but more of something along the lines of mentality. You see with poker, it is literally horses for courses and cash games do not suit certain types of mentality and some people find it literally impossible to get into the proper mindset despite how much they try.

Cash games are definitely where the money is (consistent money I am talking about) and many people know this but yet what millions of players dont know is that these types of games may not suit their character. This seemed to be the case with him but the question that he asked me was “what was the best way to build a bankroll online”.

Well this isnt an easy question to answer because it is so player dependent. It is no use telling someone one thing if their mindset and skill set indicate that another course of action would be best. But the best way to increase a bankroll steadily online is to play lowstakes SNG’s. These are precisely the types of games that are “system” orientated and also, strange as this may seem….folding has tremendous value in these types of events and there isnt the same necessity to get involved in action as there is in cash games.

This is not a plug for my e-book “Crushing Online Single Table Tournaments” but I am just stating a fact. You can get 10-20% return in SNG’s upto the $20 level and when you can multi-table then this could mean as much as $15-$20 an hour with rakeback.

Now thats not mega wages but it is making money and that is something that 90-95% of the players online do not do. A player could make $20k a year doing this, not enough to pack in the day job but still good money from a hobby.
