I have just had someone e-mail me about a week or so ago who won 9 out of his first 20 SNG’s after reading my new e-book on SNG’s. I had to calm him down as this is obviously not the norm in 10 man SNG’s. These fluke results (which is what they are) will no doubt be corrected. On the flip side, I have had people coming to me who have also had very negative results in their first few tournaments as well who have all been doom and gloom.
Listen…..it takes literally hundreds and hundreds and probably several thousand tournaments before you finally arrive at your earn rate or ROI in these things. Also I think that it is worth mentioning just how these games have tightened up significantly since I played them for a living a couple of years ago. I played around 700 of them as I recall at the $200+$15 level so even my ROI was not 100% accurate.
But I am seriously thinking of playing them again but this time only playing 5/6 man SNG’s. As I have said countless times, I tend to easily get bored these days playing poker. I think the reasons behind this are mainly to do with the fact that my financial circumstances have changed over the years and I no longer have to grind it out anymore to make a living. This is very tough psychologically even if you do happen to make the game pay.
This is why I hate multi-tabling because it just feels even less like poker to me. But for many players and especially low stakes pro’s then it is absolutely crucial in order to maximise your earn rate in the time allotted in an average working week.
Also, I think that playing a single table definitely increases my edge on that table as I can take advantage of all the players on my table who are in fact multi-tabling. But there is so much money to be made by playing small stakes SNG’s or small stakes anything for that matter simply because the level of play is so bad. Anyway, I am off out now for a nice meal with my partner so enjoy the rest of your holiday.
