A good read

I have just read Gus Hansens book “Every hand revealed” and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I wouldnt be rushing to copy that style of play in online cash games if I were you as many of his plays are non cash game compatable or not at the mere mortal stakes anyway.

But what struck me about that book……now I know that the reader gets to see Gus’s cards and so knows when he has his fingers in the till so to speak but F*** me…..why dont they play back at him????? I mean, some of them do but certainly not with anything near the proper frequency. Talk about being intimidated by a guy’s reputation. I know he has won a few WPT titles and has a fearsome reputation but some of those hands were a bit much.

I found myself screaming at the book (can you actually believe that) and shouting “PLAY BACK……COME OVER THE TOP”…..but no…..hand after hand just hits the muck. This is precisley why my e-book “Destination Final Table” advocates getting busy early because these players are the ones who you want to be attacking. By the way, this book is free to download from the homepage.

Now I know that many players have bought into these tournaments for very small amounts of money either through winning satellites or whatever and so each prize money increase can represent a considerable return on investment for these people. When you are standing to win $15k after only spending $100 then you aint going to risk it and Gus knows this. In fact it is the same with certain players who have sponsors and backers to keep happy and this can seriously affect a players mindset in a tournament.

In fact we share a lot of similar philosophies to certain situations. But many of the situations in which players laid hands down were by people who were SUPPOSED to be serious players. But the book is a great read non the less and I recommend it fully but it sure was eye opening just how supposed good players can be run over like that in a major tournament even in the latter stages because to say that some of the resteal situations were obvious would be putting it mildly.
