A good end to a bad month

All in all, it has not been a great month results wise and I think the reason for that has been partly to do with me playing less and less poker and being more game selective.

Back in 2002 and 2003 I was putting in around 60 hours a week playing online poker and this led to serious burnout. Now I spread my time inbetween playing, coaching and writing these days.

But I had one huge tremendous session in the 25-50 game although I got lucky but Jesus….can anyone deny me that after my week. I also had a couple of good sessions in the PLO and won around $2800 as well as a $1750 win in a 10-20 NL and a $650 win in a 10-20 Limit game.

But I lost $12 in the 100K Challenge and my bankroll stands at $978! I was down to around $600 yesterday and was facing an horrendous loss. But I managed to pull it around and left with only a $12 loss which was a great comeback.

But my biggest problem is motivation….I was afraid of this at the outset. If I could have got off to a tremendous start then my confidence and desire would have been high and given me incentive to carry on. But I have mentally almost chalked off the £3500 and now it is starting to bother me that I am wasting my time and could be in bigger and better games rather than trying to prove something silly.

Maybe I should have gone for $50,000 instead of $100,000, maybe I should have played PLO instead of NLH but that is too late now, I am stuck with it. I am thinking of bending the rules a bit although there is nothing to say that I cannot. If I get to say $1500 then I will have a crack at 1-2 with that $500 surplus rather than wait until I get to $2000 as I planned.

There is nothing down in writing so I can do this and if I get lucky then who knows.

See ya soon

Bobby @ 4:27 pm:

your biggest issue is not the challenge - its the arbitary target that you have self imposed.

furthermore, why dont you use your own advise ” crushing the 6 max online games”?

if you cannot beat 0.5/1 then quite simply you should not be playing at the higher stakes. Full stop.

Hi Bobby,

I dont know if you read earlier posts from last month but the point of this was to see if I could make $100K from $1000. Obviously this is a trivial amount of money and not even enough to play 0.50-1, let alone higher up.

But I have heard of other players achieving this but it is a bit like swimming the channel, very tough but it can be done. But my bad luck has been chronic so we will just have to wait and see but thanks for your comments and coming to see us.
