Last night I was exceptionally lucky in the 25-50 game…..and then exceptionally unlucky. I got a phone call from my partner at around 8.45pm telling me about a player that I need to be playing with. I quickly logged on and fortunately there was no one else on the waiting list and within five minutes I was on the table.
Literally about two minutes after I sat down, another player arrives who we have no data on whatsoever. He sits down with the full $5000. Ten minutes later I get another call telling me that this player is losing 1.8BB/100 at NL400……WTF is he doing on here with five grand!!!!
Is this his entire roll or what? I am playing steady when the following hand comes up with mister five grand. He open raises to 175 and I call on the button with 10d-9d and both blinds fold. Flop comes Jc-8c-7h giving me the nut straight.
With $425 in the pot mister five grand checks to me. I want to start escalating this pot and if he cannot call a bet now then chances are that I couldnt have won anything from him anyway. Another straight card could totally kill my action all together so I make a bet of $300 and he insta shoves all in for $4650!!!!
Obviously I call and he flips over the Ac-5c for nut flush draw. Turn card is the Kh and river is the 3c. After that set back I buy back in as the game is so good but mister five grand who is now almost mister ten grand leaves after a few more hands and I am left with my original target who is now down to $2800 and showing no signs of topping up.
I have position on him and am on the button. I have been attacking his BB relentlessly and it is folded to me on the button with K-K. I raise to 175 and SB folds but villian re-pops to $650. I think that he is trying to blow me from the hand and I re-raise again (forget to what) but he shoves/calls and shows As-Qs. Flop comes J-7-7 (my favourite flop), turn Q…..river…..ANOTHER QUEEN!
Then he leaves and I am left licking my wounds and facing four very strong players so I make an exit too. Still at least my under 2.5 goal bets went in at Boro, Everton and Arsenal but that sure as hell didnt compensate for the poker.
