Its a question of logistics

Been no poker of late except one session of HUNLHE last night and won $133 and my opponent left the table before I did which is a rarity. But first things first and football always comes before poker and Hull City versus Spurs was live on Setanta.

Actually I played five hours of poker yesterday including my training in the low-stakes limit games where I managed to win the grand total of $2. I never thought that I would find converting back to these games so difficult but my mental state isnt right and I keep being too aggressive in too many situations. Also I am suffering from playing too wide a level. I am playing $0.50-$1.00 to $3-$6 and this is too wide in my opinion.

From what I have seen so far there is a clear delineation point between $1-$2 and $2-$4 and I am struggling to mix the two as I need to play differently at each level. But six max limit games are heavily raked and I need to play in such a way as to offset this and try to use it to my advantage. The rakeback payment on Cake is 33% and contrary to belief I will be attempting this challenge at that perentage and not 100% which a few people have remarked.

But I will be starting soon and playing 0.50-1.00 and 1-2 limit multi-tabling. I was going to do this at NL50 but I struggle to find the appropriate bet sizes playing so many tables and bet sizing is a crucial aspect of NLHE. Plus at NLHE, minimum stackers can harm your earn rate as you just dont have the implied odds against them. The skill to playing hold’em both in NL and at limit is in how you play post flop. But minimum stackers greatly impact a players edge in NLHE and a novice with a minimum stack can be an effective player and especially when they are not playing post flop poker.

But a minimum stack at limit cannot be used in the same way with anywhere near the same level of effectiveness so for these reasons I have decided to make limit holdem the focal point of the challenge. I dont know when I am going to start. I am hoping to show that a player can make at least $1000 a month playing nothing but 0.50-1.00 and 1-2 limit games. This would mean a bankroll of $1000 at the absolute extreme. In fact 500 big bets is an overly cautious estimate here and 300 would suffice which is only $600.

In fact the sign up bonus on Cake Poker would mean that you could start with only half this amount and be successful. In fact even $300 would be stretching it because you could start with say $100, take advanatge of the sign up bonus which would effectively double it and providing that you got away to a decent start you may never need to reload.

And all these cash games on Cake also qualify you for Gold Chips and you get awarded these for simply playing cash games. You can then use these chips to buy gifts from the shop or buy into specific tournaments with upto $5000 in prize money without having to buy in.

I am going to seriously try and commit to putting 100 hours in next month doing this and we will see how I go. If it goes well then I may start the challenge proper either May or June.

See ya soon
