I had an e-mail this week from a guy called Aaron Wallace who asked me about my book “Princes of Darkness : The World of High-Stakes Blackjack”……he asked me how I thought it was possible to beat a BJ game that involved a shuffling machine when this type of game provided absolutely no card information whatsoever……here is my answer to that.
You have to remember that BJ when played with accurate basic strategy only gives the house an edge in the region of .5% when played with typical rules. This means that if you were playing in say $10 units and seeing 100 hands per hour that your hourly expectation would in the negative to the tune of $5 per hour. This figure is arrived at by multiplying the $10 by 100 (number of hands) and this gives a figure of $1000 which is your total hourly action.
A figure of 0.5% of this equates to -$5 per hour. In reality it would actually be less than this in most cases simply because you would be seeing on average less than 100 hands per hour. If you were only seeing 50 hands per hour with a combination of a slow dealer and a busy game then your expectation would now only be -$2.50 per hour.
This is basically nothing and is a fantastic base from which to play from even if you still dont have an edge yet. The key to this is in the fact that the game is still being dealt by a human dealer. As an ex-croupier myself, I am more than aware of how dealers make mistakes and in some cases can even be manipulated into making them. When you are starting with a mere -$2.50 per hour rate then it only takes 1 dealer error per hour to turn that into +$7.50 per hour as you are gaining one average bet.
In some cases you can achieve more than this and every error allows you to gain an extra $10 per hour. In my experience many dealers will make at least 1 error per hour that costs the casino money.
For anyone who wants more information on this then feel free to contact me at Carl@Pokerquest.f9.co.uk
All we are talking about here is a little imagination and guile, as long as you are satisfied with small amounts of money then anyone can make this work. Speaking of work, I will be looking to put a fair few hours in over the coming weeks and months playing nothing but 2-4 and 3-6 limit on Cake Poker. I expect the challenge to be on come the 1st April or 1st May.
See ya soon and take care
