Its funny how you get tagged by certain people. Many people still think that I play limit holdem seriously. I havent played serious limit for a while and not since I played $150-$300 back in 2006-2007. This was something that I kept quiet at the time because I didnt want anyone to know where I was playing or who I was. I did get over $60k ahead in this game but started slipping back and stopped playing it when I was around $27k ahead.
I could tell that the games were very tough even then and to be honest I really shouldnt have been playing that high as the value seemed very thin to me. Plus the variance at that form of poker has always been a bitch but you could get way with 250-300 big bets in your bankroll once upon a time but the players got better and the level of aggression got higher and suddenly you needed 400 big bets…..then 500……then 600 and suddenly the working pro’s were having as many as 1000……and they needed them as well.
This was why I wrote “Secrets of Professional Limit Hold’em” (a book that will no longer be coming out) because I knew that my future in limit and especially the higher stakes games was limited. Even the 30-60 and 50-100 games were attracting high stakes pro’s and suddenly the higher limit players were multi-tabling lower down so you were even encountering some serious players as low as $20-$40.
But the new blood was coming in and playing NLHE and this is where the future was…..not too sure now but even that comes down to how much you want to earn.
Speaking of NLHE……won $73 today in a 1 hour session playing five tables of NL50 and NL20 in preparation for next months challenge……really happy with how that is all going now. Over $1300 ahead in those games since Dec 1st and am quietly confident that I can make $1000 a month starting next month.
Will just have to wait and see though. Played two sessions last night and lost $488 playing 10-20 limit but made that back by winning $612 playing three tables at $200 PLO. This should be my last poker for a while as I will be concentrating on the 25-50 game and also on the challenge from now on.
I am also contemplating writing two blogs a day starting next month but we will just have to wait and see on that one…..anyway take care and see you soon.
