Played a short session in the Pro Poker Challenge yesterday and lost $44. This was my worst session so far but it did actually highlight a couple of flaws that I have since corrected. I also lost $30 in one pot when I let the betting escalate needlessly. I was in the big blind with 8-4 in an unraised pot and the flop came J-8-4.
Small blind bets and I raise, it gets folded to the small blind who three bets. This should have set an alarm off in my head but instead I four bet them all in to see them reveal J-8. I let my concentration slip there for a minute and let the fact that my opponent only had 60BB influence me into getting them all-in. I could have controlled that pot better and got away with that with a smaller loss than what I did.
I also lost money attacking the blinds as well as making a couple of plays at people that didnt come off. I stopped the session once again as something didnt feel right. I think that I have sorted a few things out and went back today and played for 1hr 26 mins and won $25 of that back so am $19 down on where I was yesterday morning. Was far more restrained today but I definitely feel that I am overpressing too much or at least I have been. This seems to be the case when I play on my laptop.
I play on my laptop in my living room because I dont always fancy sitting at my desk. But when I play on my laptop I can only just squeeze in four tables and I sometimes have a table in the middle of the screen…..I dont like them cascaded.
This means that my chances to get it all-in with a huge Sklansky edge are minimised so I find that I end up going looking for opportunities rather than just sitting back and letting them come. I am not a natural grinder and am struggling to get into that mindset. But I am still $690 up this month an around 12,000 hands and many of those were at NL20.
But I am still convinced that a full-time player could get 60k hands in per month and times my win so far by 5 would get a monthly figure of $3450. Too early to come to these conclusions yet but its not the amount that matters but the amount over the number of hands. I think I will end up playing about 20k hands this month which will be far less than what I had planned.
My associate who was looking to help me on the 1st May will struggle to find out everything that I am doing in the short time that we have so his results would be pointless at this stage so I am going to persevere on my own. I let things get away from me yesterday and the $44 loss was my worst this month. But I have had a quick look at my play around the blinds and it can be improved.
Anyway….I am off to watch the football so see you soon.
