Played a session in the Poker Pro Challenge yesterday and won another $43…….I was disgusted with my play. I actually played counter to my own system and increased the variance tremendously. I was $100 up at one stage and should have basically kept it at around that figure. Made a stupid misclick which cost me $10 when I played back at a player who was obviously nicking and raised to $12 when it should have been $2 and got caught by the third player who had checked a 5-5-K board.
I stopped playing as I was not mentally right again but I know what the problem is now and it is something that is pertinent to me only so nobody else should worry about it. I simply cannot keep my discipline or refrain from getting bored playing as low as this for more than an hour at a time. So I have taken the decision as of yesterday to reduce my sessions to 1 hour maximum and no more. In fact as another safety measure I am going to start to batten down the hatches after about 45 minutes and only play the higher end of my range to avoid this personal problem.
What this means of course is that I could never play this system for 40 hours a week (not that I would want to anyway). But there are numerous people out there who simply would not have the same personality defects at this level that I have who could make this work far better than me and really take this system on. It also essentially means that 100 hours a month playing like this may be beyond me now and 2×1 hour sessions a day will be my limit.
Still it is better to do this than to spew money by playing too long. I guess that I am just trying too hard to get my hours in and my sample size up but this is pointless if in doing so my play and results deteriorate. I find that I am spending 10 minutes or so waiting for a game sometimes so that may be a factor in affecting my concentration and boredom levels later in the session when money is at stake.
I am hoping that you wont have these problems and can soldier on…..intend to play a session today and from now on it will be 1 hour only.
