Yesterday for the first time I had to stop playing my session in the Pro Poker Challenge because I was making bad decisions. I had already had my first losing session when I lost $16 but I had another session later in the day where I was 8-tabling NL50 (no more NL20).
I won $32 but ended the session after only 46 minutes…….my head wasnt right and it was almost as though I didnt care……so I stopped playing. Luckily I ended up $16 on the day so not a disaster. Maybe playing so low is starting to get to me and I did have KK vs AA twice in close succession. Maybe deep within my subconscious…..I just dont want to play NL50.
But I see myself as a crusader now fighting for the masses of unskilled losing poker players not just now but in the future and I owe it to them to make a real go of this. Played 7500 hands this month so far and about $550 ahead. The most remarkable thing is that in over four months I have not dropped more than 3 buy-ins with this system of play.
The maths guys would never dig it, sacrificing EV for deliberate lower variance would be a totally alien concept to them. But variance is like speed……IT KILLS. My system lowers speed/variance and enables the player to get to playing professional poker safely without accidents. It is also more achievable than what Chris Ferguson tried to do for the masses as it doesnt entail having to grind at 1c-2c for ages which would get to anyone.
My challenge starts with $250 and then takes advantage of the 100% sign up bonus on Cake and enters the world of professional poker IMMEDIATELY…….I personally believe that this could have profound effects on low-stakes NLHE full-ring games and is one of the most exciting ventures that I have ever undertaken to do.
I need to tweak a few things in and around the blinds and I dropped NL20 as of yesterday. I also need to make sure that my own stupid indiscipline doesnt get in the way because I am not a natural grinder and certainly grinding low-stakes games is alien to me so I have a second challenge…..with myself. Maybe I do need the $100 stop loss figure after all
