Over the weekend I have been re-reading my literature on Zen and in particular Zen Buddhism and how this connects to poker. I was an avid reader a few years back but as Zen would say……I lost my way and strayed from the path of enlightenment.
So I am going to make reading Zen part of my overall game and philosophy……if its good enough for Howard Lederer then its good enough for me. As of today I feel really good about myself but do you know what? Reading Zen over the weekend has made me think about the challenge and that maybe I should be doing it at NLHE after all.
Its kind of difficult to put into words but thats how it is. Also I dont think that I am going to stop reciting things now on a daily basis for one simple reason. What I am reading now is making it painfully apparent that my head has not been right for a while and certainly last year. All I have to do to remind me not to stop doing this is to think of one simple thing…….$100k!!!
Thats it…..end of story. I have also kick started my healthy living area of my life and I am not even craving food like I used to, this is powerful stuff when you really start to embrace it. In fact the most amazing thing about it for me personally is that these doctrines are several thousand years old and they are just as powerful and pertinent now as they were back then.
I am hoping that this year I will start to look at poker in a whole new different way that will not only make me a far better player but also a far better person. What I am sad about is allowing myself to stray away from Zen at all and it will be a long long time before I allow this to happen again.
