Yesterday was a frustrating day, didnt feel well and my internet connection kept failing. Finally around 8.00pm Id had about four hours of continual connection so I decided to play some HUNLHE. Sat down in a $10-$20 game and within minutes was ahead by over $400. I had only bought in for $650 and should have stuck to my strategy of hitting and running.
My opponent had me outstacked with about $1500 on the table. I am on the button and see pocket jacks and raise to $70 and the big blind re-raises me to $250, I think that my jacks are ahead of his range and the choice is between calling or shoving all-in……I shove.
They think for a while and call and show 9-9. Flop is 6-5-2 rainbow, turn is a 7……river is an 8 and he makes a straight……a $2100 pot lost on the river which didnt contribute to me feeling any better. I should have stuck to my strategy which would have put me +$400 ahead instead of having a loss of $650.
Still my “Sklansky Dollars” were exceptional so I should rejoice in that I suppose. Thats my biggest pot since I started playing heads up cash games and I was happy with my play but at times I still struggle after all these years to look at the bigger picture. I think that my confidence may have taken a bigger hit than what I imagined after last year.
Nothing much else to report but I will be squeezing in around 20 hours play in the NL50′s between now and the end of the month which should do me OK for a 1st of April start date. Never seem to have time to do things these days and I havent played PLO for ages it seems.
Have been contemplating joining the Blackbelt Poker course this week but some of those committments on attending live events and also the poker workshop for one day a week in London may be hard to do. Also playing poker for six hours a day for a month will be tough. I just dont play my best game over that many hours and to do so would mean that I would have to put in a silly number of hours.
Also my main playing time is taken up by sponsor which is Cake Poker so I have a duty to play as much of my poker on their site as I possibly can. At times I do try to do too much and I should remember that there are only 24 hours in an actual day.
Have been doing some serious work on my Poker Office 5 data this week without my parner…..wonders never cease. I think that I have found a very profitable pattern with one of the regulars in the 25-50 game. God I love the way that I am playing now……its so surgical and clinical compared to last year. I do my research…….spot something……move in…….move back out again.
Its almost like the search and destroy missions in Vietnam……I do live in a dreamworld some of the time you know and think that I am Rambo
