Not much poker to relate, played a couple of sessions in 25-50 and won a very nice $8100 on Friday but lost a fair chunk of that back later on the same day. I picked a bad time to make a big semi-bluff all in re-raise. I was so certain that this guy had nothing but he was holding top set. I was in the big blind with 9c-8c and it was folded to the button who raised to $175.
This player had very aggressive stats on the flop and turn so I knew that he liked to pressure players from pots. I dont know this player very well but I have heard on the grapevine that he has a very large bankroll…..actually I could have been tangling with a top player here and I need to get more info on this guy.
I cant prove it but I think that this player is playing under another name from someone who I used to play with….. if its him then a few little things start to make sense. Anyway I call the raise and we see a flop of 10h-6d-2c giving me nothing but a gutshot and some backdoor draws.
I had tried check-raising this guy off a pot sometime earlier and was three bet off the hand so I didnt want to c/r the flop again. I checked and he bet 1/2 pot and I called. The turn card was the Jc giving me a flush draw and a straight draw.
I had him covered slightly and I checked the turn and he bet something like $500 into a $700+ pot. I moved in and check-raised to $2500 and was shocked to see him call. A club came on the river but it was the wrong club and was the 6c which completed his boat with 10-10 in his hand and it was goodnight me. I was happy with my play and the situation and just unlucky that I walked into a situation where I had to make my hand to win and ended up making it and losing although I still had a fair amount of equity in the hand on the turn.
Still……no one likes getting their money in when the are forced to have to make a hand to win.
Have been doing some analysis on Double or nothing SNG’s lately that are on Cake Poker and I think that these games really do offer tremendous profit potential to many players with the added bonus that they are also introducing far less variance. I think that they are great for starting small and gradually building bankrolls.
I played some of these off the cuff a few months back and did OK but I am sure that I could have done better with a little preparation.
