I thought that I would indulge in buying Arnold Snyders’s book on tournament poker as a refresher before I embark on my poker tournament exploits next month. I love reading poker books and especially when they are good and this book was certainly not a dissappointment. Snyders thesis on tournament speed and stack sizes is a real joy.
In fact I would go as far as to say that I have been really enjoying the book and Snyders theories on poker tournaments are both eye opening and refreshing. For those of you who have not heard of Arnold Snyder then he originated in Blackjack years ago and wrote several great books on the subject as well as many manuals and magazines.
But you can rest assured that anything that he puts into print will be quality material and I was really eager to hear what he has to say about the “fast paced” poker tournaments. I have been playing some low stakes SNG’s on Cake Poker lately but these were my specialty a few years ago and nothing has changed, I still beat them consistently.
This just underlines how tournament poker is more suited to my psyche these days than cash games. When I play low stakes cash games I bleed money, when I play low stakes SNG’s then I make money but one is a poker tournament and far faster while the other isnt and is much slower. Maybe I am “punch drunk” at cash games but I am now seriously thinking about doing the challenge on SNG’s instead but I have promised so many things that I will refrain from actually saying it until it happens.
I will also be doing a far more regular blog and this is something that will certainly happen, I will try to blog now every day and at least every couple of days.
