Well I figured that I am supposed to be a poker player…..right??? Well then I had better start playing some poker. But after a bad run in the 25-50 game over the past six months it has knocked my confidence. Luckily I have had a few people around me giving me advice and it seems that I have drifted from my usual style somewhat.
I have now noticed how my game has altered compared to a year ago and its frightening. I am doing things that I never would have dreamed of doing last year or even six months ago and its no wonder that I have been losing money and I dont think that its down to variance either although I have had a few tough beats as well.
So starting next week I will be back playing 25-50 NLHE which is the game that I play the best. But it is an immense help to have a network of players who I can share data with and that simply cannot be underestimated. The player pool isnt that big at this level so I find myself only playing a few hours a week as I try and fit around my associates the best that I can.
So hopefully I will go on a decent run between now and Christmas and claw some money back with my new found game. I mean……just how bloody hard is poker? You work your arse off for years and then have to re-invent the wheel again.
Talking of re-inventing the wheel, I am playing in the 100k guaranteed tonight on Cake Poker and I have been studying hard this week since last weeks bubble elimination. I have even been reading Harrington on Hold’em which after all these years I am actually reading for the very first time.
I must admit that now that I understand “M” theory that I would have played last weeks tournament slightly different. I wouldnt have let my stack get down to what it did and I probably would have folded or shoved instead of making the x3 pre-flop raise.
But this just goes to show why poker is so damn difficult because you can go through periods where everything is hunky dory and then…..wallop. Its why I love this damn game so much.
