We have finally seen the back of the 2008 World Series of Poker…..or have we. Well not quite actually as we still have nine players left with each one coming back in November to play for the title. These people have become known as the “November nine”. I am not overly sure that I like this to be honest. I can understand the reasons for why they have done it but it all seems like some collosal anti-climax to me.
All that deep stacked play and now we have to wait another 4 months to see the new Champion crowned. But anyway, I dont know about you but I am rather glad to see the back of the series to be honest as I find it rather intrusive on my own personal schedule. There always appears to be loads of people away at this time who I need to get hold of and it annoys the pants off me. Couple this with summer holidays and it is a time of year that I dont like on a professional level.
I had a very interesting phone call last night from my potential backer that I have been talking about off and on in recent months. Funnily enough he was in Vegas and played the cash games over there but didnt play any events. Apparently he has been in discussion with another business colleague of his and they can back me to the tune of $1 million dollars between them which is £250k each.
These guys are serious and I dont know whether to be flattered or scared……I think I am both. That gives me more than enough to hit the $25-$50 level but I play at the level now off and on. But it would give me a great bankroll to hit the 50-100 level and even 75-150 as well. In fact I could even have 50 buy-ins at 100-200.
The last time that I had a backer was when I played blackjack but it was not to this level. If I play scared with someone elses money then I have no chance in these games despite having the game to beat them I am certain. But I would hate having to report large losses to one person let alone two. Although I cannot help thinking that I am missing an opportunity here and it would be great for my image to be seen in the big games although that would be a selfish thing to think.
At the end of the day then it all comes down to pound notes and what my share is out of the total winnings. Personally I would hate to have to give over large chunks of what I had won even though I would not be playing at that level. At least at 25-50 then I get to keep everything but playing on someone elses money brings both pressure and ease at the same time.
Well the offer is on the table and is open ended so there is no rush and I am certain that my game can beat these levels although you never know what you are going up against and I have been doing plenty of research in this area of late.
Anyway bye for now and see you soon
