Just where is online poker heading, is it heading the same way as casino blackjack where technology prevents any sort of meaningful edge from being obtained? Then you have to resort to imagination to get the job done but even then, the amount of potential profit is small.
The UB cheating scandal has rocked the online game but this is hardly a stand alone case is it. But in my mind this situation has been created by the way that the online environment has gone. Everybody is serious these days with regards to playing poker and if you want to get ahead then you have to eat, sleep and breathe the game…..or at least this is how it is above and beyond certain levels.
I dont much fancy grinding NL50 and NL100…..sure I could play far higher but the players are getting pretty damn good and in many cases better than me……how the hell can you find value against better players?……..simple…..you cheat!
Do I or have I ever cheated online….hell no…..but the way that the online game is getting then many people will see this as their only option…..that or get out of dodge.
You can still make good money at lowstakes NLHE and I proved that an hourly rate of c$25/hour is well possible multi-tabling NL50. This is $1000/week for a full-time player but 40 hours a week takes some doing on a week in and week out basis. Its Ok for a few weeks but it just fries your mind.
When you look at the sheer volume of players (good players I might add) who are doing other non playing poker related things. “Skinny” who hase made 8ptbb/100 at NL100 over 375k hands now coaching and staking, “Balloo”, NL400 and NL600 six max specialist now also coaching, Collin Moshman….coaching and staking, Demetri, very strong limit player on Stars now also writing, coaching and making videos.
People jumped on my back but this is the smart way to go…..time to get with the program and not wait until your earnings dwindle down to peanuts. Do you need to cheat to beat high-stakes online poker……of course you dont. The very best will make seven figures but dont try getting into that circle. That will be like trying to survive as a newbie in the big game in Vegas……Barry Greenstein once said that few new players survive straight away in that game.
I wouldn’t fancy my chances at 300-600 and above, these are levels that are meant to be played into over a period of time in my opinion……unless you have some sort of help and I dont mean cheating……just help…….but thats enough of that as I don’t want to say too much.
I have been very happy working with Poker Loco recently and they are a really professional lot over there. Will be dipping my beak shortly in their main tournamenta so keep a look out for that
